HIGH SPEED COMMUNICATION OVER ENERGY NETWORK
OVERVIEW
The TDEH10SWT is a 3-phase broadband powerline (BPL) network manager designed to create a reliable, secured and robust megabits per second IP communications backbone along an electrical grid. The network manager opens the IP (TCP/UDP) network created on the electrical grid to applications, ensuring all applications an end to end quality of services while strictly isolating their data pipes.
The 3-phase broadband powerline network manager acts as a BPL network master with dedicated access to BPL management network and dedicated access to applications IP network. It is based on the combination of a high-speed manageable MAC switch and the industry leading Maxlinear DSS9503 BPL IC chip. DSS9503 IC supports 200Mbits/second physical communication on the power line split into 1536 OFDM (Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing) carriers spread over a configurable frequency range between 2MHz and 32MHz.
The TDEH10SWT includes a standalone version of TD network management system (TDNMS) to manage, monitor and configure its BPL network and to configure application data pipes including dedicated quality of service. The TDEH10SWT can be integrated into TD provisioning and network management system (TDPNMS) together with other BPL network masters to create a full interface to all BPL network deployed elements.
With its options on communication interfaces and embedded extensions to TDNMS integrated applications, TDEH10SWT is the proxy to all IP elements manageable in the BPL network covering natively metering and lighting applications.
BPL NETWORK TECHNOLOGY
The TDEH10SWT is a BPL network master part of Teamly Digital TDEx10 solution. TDEx10 solution is optimized for low latency highly prioritized and secured IP communications over power lines. TDEx10 solution is based on Teamly Digital product ranges including the network manager TDEH10SWT, the modems TDEM10 and TDEM10AG and the repeater TDER10. TDEM10AG and TDER10 implement BPL signal amplification and high sensitivity to extend physical link coverage.
TDEx10 network solution is optimized for both the star network topology where the TDEH10SWT network master connects directly to each BPL network element and for the tree network topology, extension of the star network topology through one or more network packet repeaters.
TDEx10 solution includes a BPL network topology discovery to optimize the overall connection qualities when BPL repeaters are included. Each BPL network element can connect to a TDER10 repeater or to the TDEH10SWT network master directly depending on given quality parameters. Network management system TDNMS includes a network topology configurator to force the connection between elements to a configuration known to be optimal.
Typical topologies are shown in figures 2 and 3. In figure 2, all BPL network elements are connected directly to TDEH10SWT. This setup, without TDER10 repeater, extends IP network through power line to 600 meters diameter area centered on TDEH10SWT. In figure 3, TDEH10SWT is connected directly to each blue BPL element and to repeater TDER10-1. TDER10-1 is connected directly to TDEH10SWT, to each orange BPL element and to repeater TDER10-2. In turn, TDER10-2 is connected directly to TDER10-1, to each purple BPL element. This setup extends IP network through power line to 1.2km diameter area centered on TDEH10SWT.
APPLICATIONS
TDEx10 BPL products root application is to create an IP network infrastructure usable by all network-based products along existing power lines without any road work nor any other extra works. TDEH10SWT provides network access to otherwise unreachable area.
TDEx10 BPL products include optionally a lighting
management system with architecture shown on Figure 4. System allows sending broadcast and unicast commands as well as monitoring status of each geo-localized BPL network element. All lighting
interfaces are monitored and alerts are brought back in case of specific user defined events. Commands received by a BPL lighting manager network element are converted into DMX512 or RS485 or 0-10V depending on receiver. As it takes advantage of full broadband megabits per second bandwidth, system allows overriding DMX512 limitations to access several DMX512 pipes (almost) simultaneously.
Depending on global network delivery infrastructure and on the bandwidth requirement, the TDER10 can be configured as BPL network repeaters when a single global network access is provided along the electrical grid or as a BPL network master when multiple global network accesses are provided along the electrical grid. The latter case architecture is depicted in figure 4.
More generally, TDEx10 solution offers a full standard IP secured communication network backbone to any applications. Behind any modem or repeater, any IP based product is connected to the main network. Deployment of TDEx10 based application ensures future proof IP solutions.
